(High School Program)
Oakwood Friends School is located on a 60 acre campus in the heart of the scenic Hudson
Valley. The campus is approximately 130 kilometers north of New York City. Oakwood Friends
School is a coeducational boarding school with approximately 110 students in grades 7-12.
Approximately 60 of these students are boarding students.
As a Quaker school, Oakwood Friends School is an educational community committed to the
Quakers' long-standing goal of an inclusive, diversified community of students and staff,
in an atmosphere of mutual respect and enrichment.
Art classes may be arranged for students at any Level with the approval of the Program
Director and the Oakwood Director of Studies.
Will.I.Am - Go Home
Students may take part in all Oakwood activities, including Yearbook, Poetry Club,
Drama, Musical and Choral Productions, and Literary Magazine. All students take part in
the work service program, community meetings and weekly Meeting for Worship. All students
take part in the daily sports program. Students may choose whether to take part in an
interscholastic or an intramural sport or activity. Sports offerings include soccer,
basketball, baseball, softball, cross-country, skiing, volleyball, dance, swimming,
Ultimate Frisbee, tennis, dance, and the Outdoor Club.
Weekend activities for students are well planned and supervised. Community projects,
shopping, movies, dances, and theater trips are just some of the planned excursions.
ARRIVAL
AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Students should arrive at Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, New York. Students
can be met at the airport if prior arrangements have been made. Parents are welcome to
bring students to the program personally.
Students are expected to arrive on the first day of the session and to depart on the
last day of the session.
HOUSING
AND MEALS
Students will be housed in Oakwood dormitories (in double rooms). The student is
provided with a bed, desk, chair, dresser, closet, and linens.
Resident students will take all meals in the Oakwood Dining Room. Faculty members live
in the dormitories with the students. They supervise study hall and general dormitory
life.
Laundry facilities are available on campus.
Students may deposit extra money with the Oakwood Student Bank for safe keeping.

PROFILE
Poughkeepsie, New York is located approximately 130 kilometers north of New York City.
It is situated on the east bank of the Hudson River at a point midway between New York
City and Albany, the capital of New York. Poughkeepsie is also the home to Vassar College
and Marist College.
ACTIVITIES
ON AND OFF CAMPUS
Recreational activities include hiking, rock climbing, films, music, drama, and
historical sites.
Other activities include excursions to New York City (Empire State Building, Fifth
Avenue, Central Park), West Point Military Academy, and Poughkeepsie Galleria shopping.
Special Things to Bring: prescription medicines in extra supply, health and inoculation
records, pictures of your country, a willingness to work hard, to play hard, and to enjoy
new experiences.
