Forest, near the homes of world famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright and the American
author Ernest Hemingway. Chicago, the third-largest city in the US, is a 30-minute drive

THE LOCAL
AREA
Chicago, the "crossroads of America" located on Lake Michigan boasts the world's
tallest building, the Sears Tower, along with the world's fourth and fifth tallest
building, the Standard Oil and John Hancock Center. Michigan Avenue, also known as the
Magnificent Mile, features the World's Greatest Mile of exclusive retail shops, boutiques,
and department stores with the latest in fashions.
ACTIVITIES
Some of the World's most famous museums are found in downtown Chicago; including the
Museum of Science and Industry, The Field Museum of Natural History, and the world famous
Art Institute of Chicago. Navy Pier is a must see in Chicago. On the lakefront, it is
filled with shops, restaurants and some great blues and jazz music in addition to the
magnificent Ferris wheel and indoor atrium.

Lake Forest Academy
(High School Program)
Lake Forest Academy is located on a wooded 200-acre campus and enrolls approximately
300 students. Lake Forest is located 48 kilometers north of Chicago and is situated on the
shores of Lake Michigan.
The facilities include the academic buildings, Reid Hall and Corbin Academic Center;
six dormitories; the Glore Gymnasium and Pool; the dining hall, an all-weather track and
indoor ice-hockey rink, McKenzie Ice Rink; football and soccer fields, two baseball
diamonds, five tennis courts, and a field hockey field.
Lake Forest Academy is a four year, coeducational boarding school with a rigorous
academic program.
Lake Forest Academy accepts Intensive English Program students based on the following:
successful completion of Level 5 and a 500+ TOEFL score, a completed LFA application,
transcript of the last three years of school, and the recommendation of the Institute.
Students may enroll in up to two LFA courses while completing the program. Only
students in Level 4 or Level 5 are eligible to begin to audit classes. LFA charges $500
extra per course.
ARRIVAL
AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Students will arrive at O'Hare International Airport (Chicago). Students will be met at
the airport if prior arrangements have been made.
A limousine service is available for students at a cost of $60 - travel time is
approximately 30 minutes.
Registration begins on the first day of class. Students should plan to arrive at the
Academy on the first day of class, not before.
HOUSING
AND MEALS
Dormitory housing (double rooms and a few single rooms) is available. Each student is
provided with a bed, desk, chair, lamp, dresser, closet, and linens. All meals are
provided by the school. This cost is included in the Comprehensive Fee.
Faculty members live in the dormitories with the students. They supervise study hall
and general dormitory life. Students are required to follow the rules, regulations, and
policies of Lake Forest Academy.
ACTIVITIES
ON AND OFF CAMPUS
Students may take part in all extra-curricular activities offered at Lake Forest
Academy. These include the varsity and junior varsity athletic teams, intramural sports,
theater and musical productions, clubs, day-trips, and vacation excursions.
Clubs on campus include photography, ski, chess, electronics, art, dance, music,
theater, and radio.
Recreational Activities include sports, bike-riding, trips, skiing, drama, music, art,
dances, movies, parties, canoeing and sailing.
Other sights and activities include Lake Michigan, Chicago (Adler Planetarium, Shedd
Aquarium, Museum of Natural History, and Art Institute), Milwaukee, Frank Lloyd Wright
houses, Railroad Museum, zoos, and Great America Amusement Park. There are also trips to
see the professional teams in sports such as baseball, football, soccer, hockey, and
basketball.
The Chicago area offers a wide variety of activities and points of interest. Each
weekend there are trips to Chicago for sightseeing, shopping theater, music restaurants,
sporting events, and recreation. There are weekend ski trips to Wisconsin and Michigan and
ski trips to the Rocky Mountains and Europe during the winter and spring vacations. There
are also school trips to points of interest around the U.S. for sightseeing.
