LOCAL AREA
Washington, D.C., is the capital of the United States. It is an exciting and
sophisticated city of parks, tree-lined streets and outdoor cafes as well as elegant
shops, trendy nightclubs, and a wealth of national and historic monuments.
ACTIVITIES
Visit the renowned Smithsonian Museums, including the Air and Space Museum, and the
Library of Congress. Plan excursions year-round to Philadelphia and New York City, winter
ski trips to Maryland and summer beach trips to the Atlantic Coast.

John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts: Includes six theaters presenting drama,
dance, ballet, music, comedy, films and commissioned works. Home of the National Symphony
Orchestra, Washington Opera and American Film Institute.
Lincoln Memorial: Overlooking the Reflecting Pool, Washington Monument and US Capitol, the
19-foot marble statue of the 16th president is flanked by inscriptions of his Second
Inaugural Address and famous Gettysburg Address.
US Capitol: Under the magnificent white dome, senators and representatives meet to shape
US legislative policy. Free guided tours start every 15 minutes.
White House: Home of every US president except George Washington. Tickets are issued from
7:30 until noon for a free public tour. The White House Visitor Center provides an
orientation and brochure.
National Air & Space Museum: The world's most visited museum houses the Wright
Brothers' 1903 Flyer, Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, Apollo 11 lunar command module, and
an incredible collection of aviation and space technology treasures. The theater and
planetarium present spectacular programs daily on flight and the constellations.
